Hardwood Flooring: What Type is Right for You?

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is universally loved and sought-after when it comes to nearly any type of dwelling. Whether your style is contemporary or classic traditional, hardwood flooring is a timeless option that seems to suit the needs and style of practically everyone. Because there are so many different types and styles of hardwood flooring, we have taken the liberty of breaking down a few of them for you to be able to make an informed decision.

  • Solid Hardwood- This is the epitome of hardwood flooring. Sold in many different thicknesses and types of wood, solid hardwood is a product that is meant to last for generations. Solid hardwood can be sanded down many different times in order to change out colors and finishes.
  • Engineered Hardwood- A thinner layer secured to a layer of plywood or particle board gives you the look of solid hardwood, but with a more economical price tag. However, engineered hardwood can only be re-sanded and re-stained a couple of times.
  • Prefinished- This product comes as individual boards that are pre-finished and already sealed. It’s easy to install and won’t include drying time from the stain or finish. Unfinished hardwoods, on the other hand, are often less expensive for the same quality of wood.

The type, finish, thickness, and width of your hardwood flooring are personal choices that you’ll be able to enjoy for years to come.
