Hardwood and Carpet: The Great Flooring Debate!

Flooring
For something that is consistently walked all over, people seem to have very strong opinions about their choice in flooring! While it seems that the flooring options people have access to these days are countless, the two big players in the flooring game are continuously hardwood and carpeting. So, which side are you on?

  • Hardwood: Hardwood flooring is universally loved for its warmth and ability to adapt to different styles with sanding and stain color, is relatively easy to repair, and can last for generations. Hardwood flooring is what many homebuyers are looking for in a home, and they are often willing to pay more for this upgrade. However, hardwood flooring does have its faults. Water and wood don’t mix, so a flooding sink, broken dishwasher, or just a wet entryway from rainboots can cause the floors to warp, swell or discolor. There’s also the cost to consider, as it is far more expensive than cheaper flooring options like tile or carpet.
  • Carpet: Just like hardwood flooring has fans, carpeting has its own set of loyal followers. Carpeting is warm and soft to the touch and to your feet, making it perfect for living areas and bedrooms. Additionally, the thickness of the carpeting and padding underneath can serve as an insulator and dampen out loud noises. While it is cheaper to install than hardwood, it does wear and can go out of fashion quicker than hardwood.

When it comes to the great flooring debate, where do you land? Is the cost and upkeep of hardwood flooring worth the effort, or would you rather go with the insulation and comfort of reasonably priced carpeting for your home?
